I never tire of themes and dress up...
When there are dishes to wash, cookies to bake or dinner to cook the time will certainly pass more pleasantly when used as an opportunity to drink, dance and play dress up! Whether you want to include your sister, some girl friends, or simply spice up the monotony of your everyday duties, this plan is sure to please. The idea was born out of my dear single sister's desire to spend a day drinking bloody mary's and my desire to join her while not neglecting my forever growing to-do list.
We put on our most 50's inspired outfits and our favorite aprons... found at our local Anthropologie store.
She mixed up a batch of Bloody Mary's:
*tito's vodka
*Tomato juice
*dash of Worcestershire
*a few dashes of Tabasco
*couple little scoops of horseradish
*fresh ground pepper
*some fresh squeezes of lemon juice
*old bay seasoning rim and celery garnish
We played a line up of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and the Best of Motown on the Record Player and I danced to my old favorites while conquering a massive accumulation of neglected dishes (we live in an old Victorian and survive without a dish washer!)
We made a three course meal and served it up to my husband and his good friend, who were happy to catch up with our cocktail hour. Who knew house keeping duties could be so much fun? Now I do, and whenever there is an intimidating stack of dishes, or any other cooking or cleaning to be done, I turn up the music and make an occasion of it, a solution I highly recommend!
